Fred Snyder, 66, Orofino timber worker
OROFINO - Fred Snyder, a native of Orofino and a longtime timber industry worker, died at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday at Clearwater Valley Hospital of emphysema.
Snyder, 66, had been ill for several years. Death came one day before his 67th birthday.
He was born Feb. 24, 1915, the son of Betty and Amos Snyder. He received his education at Orofino and was married in 1937 to June Gleason of Orofino. She survives at the family home at Orofino.
Snyder worked in the logging industry all his adult life except for employment in the defense industry at Puyallup, Wash., during World War II. He was a member of the Idaho Old Time Fiddlers Association and played at dances in the region.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two daughters, Paula Lougee of Orofino and Carol Crawford of Lewiston; a son, Michael Snyder, his stepmother, Leola Snyder, and a sister, Winifred Phillips, all of Orofino; 16 grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren. Another son, Rick, preceded him in death.
Funeral will be at 11 a.m. Friday at the Orofino Tabernacle with the Rev. Samuel P. Harding, pastor of the Tabernacle, and the Rev. Larry Monson, pastor of the Orofino Church of the Nazarene, officiating. Burial will be at the Weseman Cemetery. Gilbert's Funderal Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
